I’ve been talking about profitable sales funnels (or the lack thereof) on the blog a lot recently. But one thing I haven’t talked about is HOW to build a profitable sales funnel.
And there’s a reason for that. First, you need to know what NOT to do in a sales funnel before you can build a profitable one.
Second, (spoiler alert!) I’m using this blog post to promote my Build Your Profitable Sales Funnel Challenge. Lest you think this blog post is all promo and no value, keep reading and I’ll prove you wrong.
If you KNOW this challenge is something you want to join, just click the button below to sign up. This is a FREE email challenge that you can do at your own pace, though it’s designed to take you just 5 days to build your sales funnel.
Create a profitable sales funnel in just 5 days!
Know Your Offer (Point B)
We’re working backwards because if you don’t know where you want your funnel to end, you’ll have no idea how to start it. Before you can make your opt-in or write your first email, you need to know what you want to sell in your funnel.
Knowing what you’re selling is what your sales funnel is built on. A funnel that sells a coach’s 1:1 mentoring service is going to look waaaaay different than one that sells that same coach’s membership site.
So get ultra clear on where your funnel will end (what offer it’s going to promote), and don’t change that offer.
Know Your Opt-In (Point A)
Once you know your end point, it’s time to find a starting point that naturally leads to your offer. This starting point is called an opt-in or a lead magnet.
In case you don’t know what that is, an opt-in or lead magnet is a free resource you give to someone in exchange for their email. Because no one is going to join your funnel without an incentive, no matter how great your funnel is.
That opt-in gives them the push they need to join your list (and funnel). Remember, people don’t join your list for the sales funnel. They join for the free resource you’re giving them, so make it good.
The worst thing you can do to tick off your subscribers and make them quickly become UNsubscribers is to give them fluff.
They need small wins to help them trust you, so create a resource that’s valuable and helps them solve ONE problem. If you try to solve 67 problems with your opt-in, you’ll overwhelm your audience.
So keep your opt-in simple yet effective and valuable for your audience. They’ll thank you for it and will be more receptive to your funnel.
Know the Journey
Now that you know where your funnel starts and where it ends, it’s time to connect the dots.
Remember that a sales funnel is a journey. You’re guiding your audience on an adventure. You’re the Sam to their Frodo. You’re supporting them as they inch closer to their goal.
That’s what should be coming across in a sales funnel. The goal of a profitable sales funnel isn’t SOLELY to sell. It’s actually to support your audience while connecting with them and weeding out the people who aren’t good fits for your service.
And that’s exactly what we’ll do in the Build Your Profitable Sales Funnel Challenge. This challenge lasts 5 days, and at the end of the challenge, you’ll have written your very own profitable funnel.
Here’s how it works: You’ll get an email every day of the challenge that will walk you through which email you’re going to write that day. But that’s not all. You’ll get TEMPLATES to help you write your funnel.
You can use the templates exactly as they are and just fill in the blank, or you can use the templates as a guide and write your own funnel.
Either way, if you participate fully in this email challenge, you’ll create your very own unique customer journey and build a profitable sales funnel in the process.

Focus on Connection
I’ve said this in several blog posts, but it’s worth repeating. Don’t focus on selling in your sales funnel. Selling is a natural byproduct of connecting with your audience and giving them valuable information.
Where most people fail is thinking that they need to push hard and sell hard to their audience. They don’t. People will buy when they’re ready.
The whole “sell sell sell” mindset is driven by fear, and it’ll tear you and your sales funnel (not to mention your business) down.
So instead of asking “How can I sell to my audience?” ask yourself “How can I use this funnel to connect with and serve my audience?”
Because if you can answer that second question and then actually execute it, you’ll find that people will be more likely to hand over their money than if you just sell to them.
And yes, that’s something we’ll talk about in the Build Your Profitable Sales Funnel Challenge. Click here to join!
A lot of people stress out about sales funnels. They start overthinking things and drawing blanks and running away in fear. That’s the completely wrong way to approach (and write) your sales funnel.
One of the keys to writing a successful sales funnel is to not stress about it. Believe it or not, your stress is apparent in your writing. Your audience will be able to tell that you were stressed when you wrote it, and they’ll be less likely to buy from you.
Approach your funnel with a sense of ease and adventure, because after all, that’s what it is! Your funnel is a journey that you get to lead your audience on. Take that leadership role with pride, excitement, and joy.
It’ll reach your audience, and they’ll actually WANT to stay in your funnel.
